Abstract
In order to increase quickly pulverized coal injection at the moderniz ed No. 3 blast furnace of Kakogawa, various investigations of burden d istribution at high ore to coke ratio were performed prior to the star t-up during the filling operation. The results of these investigations have clarified the fact that the O-1 armor stroke position can be uti lized to control the gas permeability and to acquire the optimum burde n distribution. Applying the results, the No. 3 blast furnace is being operated steadily. The PC rate reached 125 kg/thm a month after the b low-in and 170 kg/thm in May 1997.
