M. Svensson et al., INFLUENCE OF MOLAR-MASS PARAMETERS ON ELECTROOPTICAL SWITCHING IN FERROELECTRIC LIQUID-CRYSTALLINE POLYSILOXANES, Macromolecular chemistry and physics, 199(4), 1998, pp. 535-541
Three ferroelectric copolysiloxanes with different molar mass have bee
n synthesized. Mechanical measurements and electro-optical switching b
ehaviour in both cell and thin film geometry are reported. Removal of
short chains doubled (M) over bar(n) and slowed down electro-optical s
witching but the mechanical properties were not affected. A further tw
ofold increase in (M) over bar(n) by chain extension did not affect el
ectro-optical switching times but improved the mechanical properties m
arkedly.
