Abstract
Side-chain liquid crystalline ABA triblock copolymers with a backbone of polystyrene-block-1,2-polybutadiene-block polystyrene and 5-[(4'-cy ano-4-biphenylyl)oxy]pentanoic acid as side chains were synthesized. T he block copolymers possess narrow molecular weight distributions. The Liquid crystalline (LC) phase behaviour was characterized by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray scattering. Nematic and smectic polymers are accessible by variation of the spacer length .
