The circular dichroism of angle-resolved photoelectron spectra was inv
estigated for core-levels from clean and hydrogen exposed GaAs (111) s
urfaces. It was found that the circular dichroism of Ga-3d and As-3d p
hotoelectrons shows clear dependence on the emission angle of the phot
oelectrons and the sample surface. It is proposed that the experimenta
l results may be interpreted primarily in terms of the interference of
photoelectrons affected by the anisotropic field in the surface layer
