Abstract
Chemisorbed states of C6H6 on Si(111)7 x 7 and Si(100)2 x 1 surfaces a re studied by Si 2p core-level photoemission and polarization dependen t C K photoabsorption measurements. The Si 2p spectrum of the Si(111)7 x 7 surface shows that charge transfer from the rest atom possibly to the adatom occurs upon C6H6 chemisorption. It is considered that the charge transfer plays an important role in chemisorption of C6H6 on th e Si(111)7 x 7 surface. The C K photoabsorption spectra of chemisorbed C6H6 show that the C ring plane is nearly parallel to both surfaces. However, C6H6 on the Si(100)2 x 1 surface is distorted by chemisorptio n.
