Abstract
The combination of high photon flux available from modern insertion de vice beamlines with efficient electron detection enables photoemission at variable energies in the keV range while maintaining good energy r esolution and counting rates. We present data demonstrating the perfor mance of the Tunable High Energy XPS (THE-XPS) instrument at HASYLAB. At h nu = 3340 eV, the Ag 3d(5/2) line is measured with 0.8 eV FWHM at a peak counting rate of 4 x 10(4) s(-1). Example spectra for threshol d excited Auger emission and total external reflection XPS are shown. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
