Abstract
The electronic structure of the occupied part of the valence band of t he Ca atom in calcium metal, CaO, CaCO3, Ca-3(PO4)(2), Ca-10(PO4)(6)(O H)(2), biliary calculi, eggshell, and hydroxyapatite (HAP) of the huma n bone tissue was studied by X-ray emission spectroscopy. A coincidenc e is established between the K-bands of calcium in fine crystalline bo ne-salt and artificial chemical. The spectra reveal considerable local ization of the d-shell of calcium in the compounds studied. (C) 1998 E lsevier Science B.V.
