E. Kolb et J. Seehawer, THE EFFECTS OF VITAMIN-A AND VITAMIN-E, B IOTIN AND FOLIC-ACID ON FETAL LOSSES IN PIGS, Tierarztliche Umschau, 52(5), 1997, pp. 290
Abnormally high embryonic mortality in sows is associated with defects
in the maturation of oocytes related to the secretion of oestrogens,
luteinising hormone and progesterone and generic defects. In addition,
a sub-optimal provision of beta-carotene, vitamins A and E, biotin an
d folic acid is associated with a negative effect. A survey of the eff
ect on litter size by the supplementation with these compounds is desc
ribed.
