Abstract
This survey revisits the research in Germany in the seventies and eigh ties on carburization conducted in a Fine cooperation of research inst itutes and a supplier of high temperature alloys, funded in the progra mme FEKKS by the BMFT. The kinetics and mechanism of the carburization of high alloy Cr-Ni-steels and the main reasons for failure were eluc idated, also ways and means for corrosion protection and avoidance wer e developed.
