Calculations of the thermodynamic and electrical properties of dry com
bustion plasma (DCP) produced by seeded combustion of a typical charco
al CSC, show that its adiabatic flame temperature and electrical condu
ctivity are remarkably higher than those of conventional plasmas from
fossil fuels hitherto employed in experimental MHD generators. Both th
ese properties are strongly dependent on the concentration of HxOy spe
cies in the plasma. The results have been compared with data on the co
nventional plasmas. (C) 1998 John Wiley Br Sons, Ltd.
