B. Szafranek et al., THE SESQUITERPENE COMPOSITION OF LEAF CUTICULAR NEUTRAL LIPIDS OF 10 POLISH VARIETIES OF SOLANUM-TUBEROSUM, Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 76(4), 1998, pp. 588-592
The sesquiterpene composition of leaf cuticular neutral lipids of pota
to (Solanum tuberosum) varieties was investigated by GC, GC-MS and HPL
C. The distribution of sesquiterpenes varied between varieties with th
e major components being beta-caryophyllene, trans-beta-farnesene, ger
macrene D, beta-sesquiphellandrene and germacrene D-4-ol. cis-beta-Far
nesene and bicyclogermacrene were identified in potato for the first t
ime. The amount of sesquiterpenes was 1O-60% of the cuticular neutral
lipids depending on variety. The sesquiterpenes and alkanes were the m
ajor groups of components in the waxes investigated. (C) 1998 SCI.
