Abstract
An analytic solution of the Peierls pinning energy E-p in the discrete Frenkel-Kontorowa (FK) model is used to obtain estimates of the secon d-order Peierls stress sigma(2P) controlling dislocation kink motion. From the Dorn-Rajnak model the kink migration energy is shown to be th e Peierls pinning energy E-p in the FK model. The required parameters are related to features of the generalized stacking fault surface. Exa mples illustrate use of the approach.
