Abstract
The magnetic susceptibility chi and the H-1-Knight shift K-H for the t ernary hydrides Pd0.6Ag0.4Hr (0.05 less than or equal to r less than o r equal to 0.16), Pd0.7Ag0.3Hr (0.08 less than or equal to r less than or equal to 0.26), and Pd-0.936(RE)(0.064)H-r, RE=Gd (0.04 less than or equal to r less than or equal to 0.47), Dy (0.06 less than or equal to r less than or equal to 0.50), and Lu (0.02 less than or equal to r less than or equal to 0.59) an studied as a function of the hydrogen content r = n(H)/n(Me) using high resolution H-1-NMR spectroscopy. Ad ditionally, the temperature dependence of chi for the hydrogen free ho st alloys Pd-0.936(RE)(0.064) is measured using a SQUID magnetometer a nd the local f magnetic moments of Gd and Dy are determined. In all sy stems considered, chi is decreasing with increasing r and KH is negati ve and increasing with increasing r. The various contributions to chi and K-H are discussed on the basis of augmented spherical wave (ASW) s upercell band structure calculations.
