M. Flores et al., DETERIORATION OF RAW-MATERIALS AND COSMETIC PRODUCTS BY PRESERVATIVE RESISTANT MICROORGANISMS, International biodeterioration & biodegradation, 40(2-4), 1997, pp. 157-160
Several species of Bacillus, Micrococcus and Staphylococcus were isola
ted from 42 contaminated cosmetic: protected with preservatives and wi
thout visible biodeterioration. Isolated microorganisms were resistant
to parabens and fenoxyethanol. They were able to grow on raw material
s such as starch, gelatine, Labrafil(R) and Tefose(R). These microorga
nisms inoculated in an Hydratant cream could produce important changes
and biodeterioration of the cosmetic. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
