Abstract
An analytical theory of the dynamical behavior of erbium-doped amplifi er (EDFA) chains is developed. A simple and detailed physical picture is presented, explaining the speeding up and the appearance of oversho ots in the transient response. The speed of the transients is shown to be proportional to the number of the amplifiers in the chain.
