My. Frankel et Rd. Esman, OPTICAL SINGLE-SIDE-BAND SUPPRESSED-CARRIER MODULATOR FOR WIDE-BAND SIGNAL-PROCESSING, Journal of lightwave technology, 16(5), 1998, pp. 859-863
We develop and demonstrate a technique for implementing a wide-band op
tical single-sideband suppressed-carrier modulator. The technique reli
es on a dual-electrode traveling wave modulator for sideband suppressi
on and a Sagnac fiber-loop interferometer for carrier suppression, The
implementation uses all commercially available components and demonst
rates >40 dB optical carrier suppression, and as much as 60 dB unwante
d signal sideband rejection across a 6-20 GHz microwave frequency rang
e. The modulator is used to demonstrate broad-band spectral shifting a
nd inversion across the 3-18 GHz frequency range.
