BACKGROUND: Ectopic pregnancy is a well-known complication of in vitro
fertilization/embryo transfer (IVF-ET). Although ectopic pregnancy af
ter IVF-ET in patients with prior bilateral salpingectomy is uncommon,
it car I occur and may be a cornual implantation. Because of the poss
ibility of early rupture With severe hemorrhage, special attention to
cornual pregnancy after IVF-ET is warranted. CASES: Three cases of cor
nual pregnancy occurred after IVF-ET. Two of these patients had prior
bilateral salpingectomy, whereas another had prior tuboplasty for tuba
l disease. CONCLUSION: Patients who had prior salpingectomy or tubopla
sty with cornual patency undergoing IVF-ET are at risk-for cornual pre
gnancy. Close monitoring of pregnancies in these patients is important
to prevent a deleterious delay in treatment of a cornual pregnancy.
