Hl. Hamilton et al., SURGICAL RECONSTRUCTION OF SEVERE CICATRICIAL ECTROPION IN A PUPPY, The Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 34(3), 1998, pp. 212-218
A three-month-old chow chow mixed-breed puppy was presented with sever
e cicatricial ectropion of the upper eyelids after being burned malici
ously. The burn wounds healed by second intention with contracture, ca
using eversion, elevation, and immobilization of the upper eyelids. Th
e puppy was unable to blink or close the upper eyelids due to cicatrix
(i.e., scar) formation. Surgical repair using tissue-relaxing procedu
res was successful in reducing corneal exposure and improving the pupp
y's appearance.
