The variation of nitrite-chloride and nitrate-nitrite selectivity coef
ficients as a function of the water activity of the solution was deter
mined for three anion exchangers of different crosslinking degree (X8,
X4, and X2) in solutions of NaCl-NaNO2 and NaNO2-NaNO3 mixtures. Resu
lts were compared with those obtained for the nitrate-chloride selecti
vity coefficient. At least in Na+ medium, nitrate-nitrite selectivity
coefficient can be estimated as a function of the water activity of th
e solution from the ratio between nitrate-chloride and nitrite-chlorid
e selectivity coefficients.
