A novel method for the production of broad-bandwidth wavelength-tunabl
e chirped in-fiber Bragg gratings is presented. This method requires o
nly a single lens and prism to produce gratings with controllable char
acteristics. The chirping profile, wavelength and bandwidth of the gra
ting are readily varied by simple adjustments of the experimental arra
ngement. An example of the spectral profile of a grating produced usin
g this method is presented and compared to the predicted response. Cal
culations predict that FWHM bandwidths in excess of 120 nm are possibl
