Abstract
Quartz & Sejnowski's target article concentrates on the development of a number of neural parameters, especially neuronal processes, in the mammalian brain. Data on learning-related changes in spines and synaps es in the developing avian brain are consistent with a constructivist interpretation. The issue of an integration of selectionist and constr uctivist views is discussed.
