Abstract
This commentary describes some extensions of the Phillips & Singer mod el of contextual interactions to cater for the contrast- and extent-de pendency of surround facilitation and suppression. I also comment brie fly on some semantic problems with what exactly the role of synchroniz ation might be: input preprocessing or output postprocessing?
