The majority of commentators agree that the time to focus on embodimen
t has arrived and that the disembodied approach that was taken from th
e birth of artificial intelligence is unlikely to provide a satisfacto
ry account of the special features of human intelligence. In our Respo
nse, we begin by addressing the general comments and criticisms direct
ed at the emerging enterprise of deictic and embodied cognition. In su
bsequent sections we examine the topics that constitute the core of th
e commentaries: embodiment mechanisms, dorsal and ventral visual proce
ssing, eye movements, and learning.
