Abstract
The Camponotus fulvopilosus species-group comprises four species: C. f ulvopilosus (De Geer) (arid and open savanna areas of southern Africa) , C. brevisetosus Forel (granite outcrops on the Drakensberg escarpmen t and its foothills), C. detritus Emery (dunes of the Namib Desert) an d C. storeatus Forel (southern Cape). A key to major workers and queen s is provided, redescriptions are provided for major workers, and the biology of each species is reviewed. Camponotus fulvopilosus comprises three morphological forms that are parapatrically distributed with di scernible hybrid zones. The evolution of the four species is discussed on the basis of their biogeography.
