Abstract
Neutron structural study shows that partial substitution of Co for Cu in YBa2Cu3O7-delta leads to an uptake of excess oxygen in chain-layers , but causes some oxygen depletion in CuO2 planes. Coupled Co/Ca subst itution arrests uptake of excess oxygen which could be the cause of pa rtial restoration of T-c vis-g-vis the samples doped with Co only. A n ew feature of the doped samples is the presence of a small amount of o xygen at the (0, 0, 1/2) sites.
