Abstract
Photo-sensitized oxidation of bis(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl) methylphos phonate (1) with 9,10-dicyanoanthracene (DCN) in MeCN gave 3,4-methyle nedioxyphenyl)-3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl methylphosphonate (2) selectiv ely through an intramolecular rearrangement of 3,4-methylenedioxypheny l group. Similar results were obtained by oxidation with Fe(phen)(3)(3 +)) and by gamma-radiloysis in 1,2-dichloroethane. Upon direct UV-irra diation of 1 in MeOH, 2 and bis(3,4-methylenedioxy)biphenyl (3) were o btained.
