Jf. Salgado, BIG 5 PERSONALITY DIMENSIONS AND JOB-PERFORMANCE IN ARMY AND CIVIL OCCUPATIONS - A EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE, Human performance, 11(2-3), 1998, pp. 271-288
This article reports three meta-analyses on the relation between the B
ig Five personality dimensions and job performance using exclusively E
uropean samples. Also, the incremental validity of Conscientiousness a
nd Emotional Stability over General Mental Ability is reported. The re
sults show that Conscientiousness (rho =.23) and Emotional Stability (
rho=.23) generalized validity across criteria and civil and military o
ccupations. The results also showed that Conscientiousness and Emotion
al Stability had incremental validity and added to total validity a pe
rcentage around 10% to 11%. Implications for the international general
izability of validity and the practice of personnel selection are comm
ented on.
