Abstract
Batch precipitations of salicylic acid are modelled in order to determ ine the kinetics of the different crystallization mechanisms. The popu lation balance equation, relating the crystal size distribution (CSD), is discretized and solved with the method of classes. Primary and sec ondary nucleations and chemical and diffusion controlled growth are ta ken into account. The model, which involves six kinetic parameters, wa s fitted to the measured supersaturation profiles and the final CSDs o f three experiments by numerical optimization.
