INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP FOR SAFETY

The Balachovo (Volga Region, Russin) and Biblis Nuclear Power Stations for the past eight years have collaborated in a joint project serving to advise, support and help towards self-help within the general fram ework of upgrading the safety of nuclear power plants in the East, in this case primarily to support the Balachovo Nuclear Power Station. Th e cooperation of the Balachovo and Biblis ''partner plants,'' and the results achieved, meanwhile have Sound international recognition. The approaches found in cooperation, and the results achieved have pilot c haracter for nuclear technology in the East. This report will focus on the results elaborated so far. It will be shown that the internationa l cooperation practiced iri the support programs of Wano and Tacis of the European Union supplements, step by step, the backfitting program on the Russian side seeking to adapt to international standards the sa fety culture and the engineered safeguards of the Russian partner plan t.
