The goal of treatment for all types of shock is the improvement of tis
sue perfusion and oxygenation. The mainstay of therapy for hypovolemic
and septic shock is the expansion bf intravascular volume by fluid ad
ministration, including crystalloids, colloids, and blood products. Fr
equent physical examinations and monitoring enables the clinician to d
etermine the adequacy of tissue oxygenation and thus the success of th
e fluid therapy.
