Abstract
Intrinsic mechanical properties of osteophytes have been compared with those of normal articular cartilage by obtaining force-indentation cu rves. The cartilage of the osteophyte ions found to be thinner than ar ticular cartilage. The mean stiffness of osteophytes was 272.8 (+/-78. 8) N/mm and the mean stiffness of articular cartilage irons 1412 (+/-9 17.3) N/mm. (C) 1998 Elsevier-Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
