The potential quality of the final migration product ('image quality')
together with the associated price tag should be the ultimate criteri
a to assess a planned seismic survey. In this light, we propose that t
he industry should evaluate acquisition geometries in terms of: ampl
itude accuracy and resolution of the migrated data (signal issue) no
ise-suppression rate (noise issue) balance between shot and geophone
effort (economical issue), assuming the application of a standard pro
cessing sequence and given a certain macro subsurface model.
