Abstract
It is shown that in a four-fibre optical WDM ring with N nodes, the nu mber of wavelengths required to accommodate a full mesh interconnectio n is (N-2 -1)/8, rounded up to the nearest integer. This result applie s for all values of N, is the same with and without wavelength convers ion, and represents the optimum value.
