Eleven patients with Cushing's syndrome were included in the study. Th
ey maintained their usual sodium uptake and received a single oral dos
e of 50 mg of the angiotensin II antagonist receptor losartan for 3 da
ys. Losartan treatment resulted in stimulation of active renin and dec
rease of plasma and urinary kallikrein activity. Both systolic and dia
stolic blood pressure decreased independently of baseline level of act
ive renin. The relationship between kallikrein and renin-angiotensin s
ystem are discussed. (C) 1998 Prous Science. All rights reserved.
