The relationship between the faecal egg count and the warm burden of t
he gastrointestinal tract of sheep was examined. Close relationships w
ere found in strongyles, Trichostrongylidae (other than Nematadirus sp
p.), Nematodirus spp., Strongyloides papillosus, Chabertiidae and Tric
huris spp.. Due to high percentage of false negative diagnosis from fa
ecal examination, this relationship was in Nematodirus spp. and Trichu
ris spp. not as close as in the other nematodes. However, the results
support the high diagnostic value of quantitative faecal examinations
in-sheep.
