K. Ahlberg et al., ALCOHOL PREVENTION IN THE WORKPLACE - THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK AND METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS, Scandinavian journal of social welfare, 7(2), 1998, pp. 180-188
The purpose of this paper is to clarify a theoretical framework that h
as guided us in our research on programs for alcohol and primary preve
ntion in the workplace and to discuss general methodological questions
and present some experiences from an ongoing study. The framework is
related to general theories about risk factors at work and different p
erspectives on work environment and health. The methodological questio
ns discussed are an ideal research strategy, some design aspects, and
measures of outcome. An empirical study was carried out in Sweden duri
ng 1995 to 1997. Four companies representing chemical and manufacturin
g industries have been studied regarding the implementation of a prima
ry prevention program, and managers, middle managers and workers have
been interviewed. We analyze the experiences obtained in planning and
carrying out research at workplaces. It is of vital importance to obta
in positive feedback from middle managers and trade unions in the impl
ementation of primary prevention programs.
