C. Luter, NOTE - EMBRYONIC AND LARVAL DEVELOPMENT OF CALLORIA-INCONSPICUA (BRACHIOPODA, TEREBRATELLIDAE), Journal of the Royal Society of New Zealand, 28(1), 1998, pp. 165-167
Early development of Calloria inconspicua (Sowerby, 1846) from Otago H
arbour, South Island and Goat Island, North Island, New Zealand has be
en precisely documented by Chuang (1996). During a recent study of bra
chiopod development at Portobello Marine Laboratory, Dunedin, embryoni
c and larval stages of C. inconspicua were obtained by artificial inse
mination. Although laboratory conditions were almost identical to Chua
ng's, the duration of life stages turned out slightly different. A sum
mary of the results of this study, of Chuang (1996), and of Percival (
1944), who first described the development of C. inconspicua, is given
in Table 1. In addition, SEM photographs of four developmental stages
are presented, which show differences in ciliation of life stages rel
ative to Chuang's line drawings.
