Abstract
Based on the kinematic property of the beam, plate and shell structure s under finite deformation, we propose that the mechanical model of a rigid line segment is suitable to describe the finite deformation of t he structures. Using this model and the finite rotation matrix, the co mplete forms of the Green-Lagrangian strains of these structures can b e derived with a unified point of view. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
