Vm. Slutsky et Ak. Morris, COGNITIVE MECHANISMS OF REASONING IN TEENAGERS - THE CONTRIBUTION OF CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL FACTORS, Psihologiceskij zurnal, 18(2), 1997, pp. 79
The authors put forward two suppositions: 1) The special training to f
orm metacomponents of deductive reasoning could improve results of int
ellectual problem solving demanding deductive reasoning; 2) Representa
tion of the metacomponents acquired while subjects solved problems in
one domain could be applied to problem solving in other domains. 490 t
eenagers from England and Russia took part in the study. The whole sam
ple was divided into two groups: younger and older ones. The subjects
produced the algebraic and verbal logical reasonings. Results confirme
d the suppositions.
