E. Nisipeanu et Pd. Jones, IDENTIFICATION OF THE EFFECTIVE RADIATIVE PROPERTIES OF A HOT, THICK,POROUS-MEDIUM, Journal of quantitative spectroscopy & radiative transfer, 60(1), 1998, pp. 85-96
An inversion method is used to; determine the spectral radiative prope
rties (scattering albedo, extinction coefficient, and Henyey-Greenstei
n asymmetry factor) of a packed bed of stainless steel spheres. Spectr
al and directional experimental data for the intensity exiting the bed
were compared to Radiative Transfer Equation (RTE) discrete ordinates
method solutions in a nonlinear least-squares algorithm (modified Lev
enberg-Marquardt) to identify the radiative properties. The properties
resulting from the inversion method showed a higher scattering albedo
, more forward scattering phase function, and higher extinction coeffi
cient than those calculated using either independent scattering theory
or the correlated scattering theory of Kamiuto. (C) 1998 Elsevier Sci
