THE ELASTIC-CONSTANTS OF CH4 BY BRILLOUIN SPECTROSCOPY

Single crystals of methane were grown and cooled without strain within the range of 90 K to 15.5 K, The x-ray Laue diffraction technique was used to determine the crystal orientations. The technique of Brilloui n spectroscopy was used to determine temperature dependence of the adi abatic elastic constants of the orientationally disordered phase and p artially ordered phase of CH4.
