M. Hulskamp et A. Schnittger, SPATIAL REGULATION OF TRICHOME FORMATION IN ARABIDOPSIS-THALIANA, SEMINARS IN CELL & DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY, 9(2), 1998, pp. 213-220
Trichomes in Arabidopsis are single-celled hairs that develop from epi
dermal cells regularly distributed on leaves, sepals and stems. Tricho
me formation in Arabidopsis is emerging as a genetic and molecular mod
el system for the analysis of the spatial regulation of cell type spec
ification in plants. In this review we focus on two aspects of trichom
e initiation: the regulation of organ and tissue layer specificity and
the establishment of an epidermal spacing pattern.
