Abstract
In this paper we investigate the potential of classifier combination f or lipreading. Totally, three lipreading classifiers are used in our s tudy, which are based on hidden Markov models, time-delay neural netwo rks, and a one-dimensional Fourier transform, respectively. Several cl assifier combination rules are described. Experimental results with tw o image databases are presented and discussed. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scien ce B.V.
