A modified version of the Chasman equation linking dye granularity to
underlying developed silver granularity of a colour negative photograp
hic material has been studied. It was found that this mathematical rel
ationship can successfully predict absolute dye granularity for photog
raphic materials incorporating either development inhibitor or acceler
ator releasing coupler. It was also shown that an algebraic modificati
on to the equation tested can lead to a significant reduction in the e
rrors in calculating dye granularity.
