A SUMMARY OF APPLICATIONS OF COLOR REPRODUCTION INDEXES TO IMAGING-SYSTEMS

A range of reported applications of colour reproduction indices to ima ging systems is reviewed. In particular, linear relationships between the colour reproduction index, CRI, and observer acceptability are com pared for reflection colour prints, projected transparencies and image s on a video display unit. Within this context the most useful referen ce for CRI calculations is explored and conclusions are drawn for situ ations where an individual imaging system is to be optimised, or a cho ice between systems may be required. The relation between a just perce ptible colour difference and a just noticeable difference in acceptabi lity is quantified, in CRI units, for reflection prints.
