Abstract
In sexually reproducing organisms, homologous recombination increases genetic diversity in gametes and ensures proper chromosome segregation . Recent publications have provided details of the molecular intermedi ates and proteins involved, the control of the distribution of recombi nation events at the chromosomal level, and the surveillance mechanism s that coordinate recombination with the meiotic cell cycle.
