Mn- and Sb-doped PbZrTiO3 (PMSZT) thin-film pyroelectric infrared (IR)
detectors have been fabricated on c-oriented YB2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) thin f
ilms. The thin-film heterostructure detectors were prepared by pulsed
laser deposition on LaAlO3 (100) substrates. The YBCO layer in the PMS
ZT/YBO heterostructure was used as an atomic template for the epitaxia
l growth of the PMSZT thin films, as well as a nonsuperconducting elec
trode and LR reflector in the detector. Mn and Sb doping was used to t
une the Pb(Zr,Ti)O-3 transition temperature to a lower value (Curie te
mperature of similar to 170 degrees C), and hence, to modify the pyroe
lectric and dielectric properties of the pyroelectric material. The PM
SZT IR detectors were examined as to their photovoltage and photocurre
nt in response to IR source temperature, detector temperature, and cho
pper frequency. The experimental results show that the detector has re
latively high IR sensitivity with a detectivity D of similar to 4 x 1
0(8) cm Hz(1/2)/W, and is capable of operating from room temperature t
o similar to 170 degrees C. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.
