Abstract
Antihemorrhagic activities of skeletal muscle extracts from various an imals were compared in inhibiting the hemorrhagic activity of Bothrops jararaca venom. The muscle extracts of the European hedgehog (Erinace us europaeus) exhibited the strongest activity, followed by those of o ther insectivores such as the shrew (Crocidura russula) and mole (Talp a europaea). The antihemorrhagic activities of muscle extracts from ex perimental animals such as mice, rats, guinea-pigs, hamsters and rabbi ts were negligible. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
