Abstract
This essay deals with two plants that were important for human develop ment in tropical zones in the past: sugar cane and coconut palm, these are presently considered as possible contributors for the solution Of actual environmental problems. Sugar cane can be a precursor plant fo r obtaining recyclable fuels to correct global greenhouse effect in th e long term. With respect to coconut palm, it is well known that cocon ut shell is one of the best raw materials for the preparation of activ ated carbon, an adsorbent material having great booming both scientifi cally and from the point of view of its applications, which mainly inv olve environmental protection processes.
