Abstract
A brief overview of instability mechanisms in a class of hybrid system s is presented. The class of systems considered are those which are co nstructed by switching between linear time invariant systems with real distinct eigenvalues. Modal analysis is used not only to provide insi ghts into instability mechanisms in such systems, but also to suggest stable design laws.
